MUNICIPAL ELECTION DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY
|Heber City will hold a municipal election this fall to elect three (3) Council members to four year terms. Declaration of Candidacy forms for the open seats will be accepted in person by the City Recorder and/or Deputy Recorder starting July 1, 2011, through July 15, 2011, during regular business hours and not later than 5:00 p.m. Although the City Offices are normally closed on Fridays, the office of the City Recorder will be open on Friday, July 15, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The City Recorder’s office is located in the Municipal Building located at 75 North Main Street. The filing fee to run for these seats is $50.00.
Qualifications for a candidate are (State Code 10-3-301; 20A-9-203): (1) Be a United States Citizen, (2) Be a registered voter of the municipality, (3) Be a resident of the municipality or recently annexed area for a period of 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election. Also, in accordance with Utah Constitution Article IV, Section 6, any mentally incompetent person, any person convicted of a felony, or any person convicted of treason or a crime against the elective franchise may not hold office in this state until the right to hold elective office is restored under Section 20A-2-101.5.
A qualified resident of the municipality can become a candidate for office by filling out a Declaration of Candidacy form in person, or by having another resident of the municipality gather signatures on a Nomination Petition.
If there is more than twice the number of candidates than open seats, a Primary Election will be held on September 14, 2011. Otherwise, the General Election will be held on November 2, 2011. Any questions may be directed to the City Recorder at 654-0757, ext. 13, or the Deputy Recorder at ext. 10.
