So You Can Dance Competition & Fireworks Dance!”
After an amazing day of musical performances from Midway’s “Main Street Musicians,” on July 3rd, the day was capped off by the exciting “So You Can Dance Competition and Community Fireworks Dance” on theIce Rink at Town Square in Midway.
The Dance Competition consisted of 13 very talented dancers competing for the “Best Soloist Title” and four couples competing for the “Best Couples Dance,” which made for a very challenging judging task by our panel of judges.
Our distinguished judging panel included Laurie Wynn, an amazing dancer and actor in her own right for many years starting with the Wasatch Waspettes in 1985, and currently Managing Editor of the Wasatch Wave, Erica Smith Miss Wasatch County with 13 years of dance experience, Ivan Bigney has performed in ballroom, tap, break dancing, and hip hop, and our final judge Tim Mugridge has participated in numerous theatrical productions over the years most recently with TVT.
In determining the winners for the dance competition 50% of the score was decided upon by the four member judging panel and 50% from the audience.
Do to the overwhelming participation of about 350 audience members out of 500 plus in attendance; it created some statistical difficulty in determining the winners which was all worked out just prior to the fireworks going off, thanks to the assistance of local tax accountant.
1st place winner for Best Couples Competition went to Cloggers Julia & McKenna King, 2nd place winner went to Cameron and McKenna King, 3rd place winner went to Halle & Taylor Tucker, and 4th place to Jocelyn & Morgan Kennedy. 1st place for Best Soloist went to Kaela Hooker, 2nd place went to Alissa Breeze, 3rd place went to Cameron King, 4th place went to Emma Jones, and 5th place went to Sarah Mair.
The evening finished off with a bang of fireworks accompanied by patriot music from the Disc Jockey at Town Square, a great location from which to watch the fireworks!
